The Story of Lulaby

Lulaby is a project that brings together two things that are deeply meaningful to me: my love for community and my connection to motherhood.

A few years ago, my family welcomed the birth of my first nieces, Luna and Ulyssia. Seeing these adorable little girls, so much like their father and their mother, was truly a breath of fresh air. It’s incredible how such tiny human beings can give you so much hope for the future, simply through their gaze.

At the time, we were looking for different gifts and newborn kits to support the new parents: clothes, books, baby-care essentials, little gifts for the mother… We had naturally assumed that new mothers would use disposable diapers.

Then, unexpectedly, my sister-in-law asked me to find her some cloth diapers.

It was a rather unexpected request, but also a very practical one. At that point, I was simply an aunt and an aspiring mother, yet I was already realizing how expensive having children could be nowadays. I had used cloth diapers more than ten years earlier, when I was babysitting my younger cousins, but I had not really heard about them since.

So I began looking for what would be healthiest for my little nieces’ skin while also being practical for their parents. After some research, I discovered the new generation of cloth diapers, the different materials available, and the many improvements that had been made over the years.

In a way, it felt like a true return to our roots.

My mother had used cloth diapers for all of her babies. Today, my sisters-in-law are using them with their own babies, and I will most likely do the same with mine when I have them.

I then shared the experience with a few friends who had recently become mothers. Little by little, the idea of sharing this solution with more parents began to take shape.

And that is how Lulaby was born, named after my nieces who were at the beginning of this journey.

Lulaby was born at a very particular stage of my life, when I was preparing to slow down my busy routine and focus more on my own journey toward motherhood, in our vibrant Montréal apartment. One thing led to another, and despite the unexpected turns life can sometimes take, Lulaby remained.

Today, the project continues to evolve.

And when I look back at this little project that began with a simple request from my sister-in-law, I realize that it carries so much more than a solution for parents. It carries a family story, a return to our roots, an entrepreneurial dream and, above all, a great deal of hope for the future.

Lulaby was born from a look toward the future. And the future looks bright.
